Series is inspired Natsume Ono manga about 2 thieves who start their own gang in Edo

The official website of the live-action series of Natsume Ono's Futagashira manga revealed on Thursday that the show's second season will premiere on WOWOW Prime in September.

The story is set in the Edo period and centers around two men who have left their thieving ring, the "Akame Gang," to strike out on their own journey. The second season will feature an original story, with Benzō and Sōji's newly founded gang aiming to be the best in Edo.

Ken'ichi Matsuyama (live-action Death Note's L, live-action Gantz's Masaru, live-action Bunny Drop's Daikichi, right in image above right) will star in the drama as the frank thief Benzō, and actor and stage actor Taichi Saotome (Nobunaga Concerto, Crows Explode, Hakuōki stage play's Hijikata Toshizo, left) will co-star as the cool playboy Sōji.

Yū Irie (live-action Joker Game, Hibi Rock, All Esper Dayo!) directed the first season, and Kazuki Nakashima (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill scriptwriter) wrote the script. The two are returning to work on the second season, and Ryō Yoshida will also serve as director alongside Irie. SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS will perform the theme song.

The rest of the cast of the first season included:

The first season ran from June to July last year on the WOWOW channel.

Ono launched the historical manga series in Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki magazine in May 2011, and will end it with the manga's seventh compiled book volume this fall. Shogakukan shipped the sixth volume on January 12. After Shogakukan suspended publication of Monthly Ikki in 2014, Futagashira resumed publication in Shogakukan's new magazine Hibana starting in March last year.
