3rd Teaser

The film will open on August 6, and will have both 2D and 3D screenings.

The film will adapt Hiroshi Saitō's original 1986 children's book of the same name. In the film's story, the young black cat Rudolph gets lost from his owner and ends up in Tokyo. In Tokyo, Rudolph meets the street-wise cat Ippaiattena and learns from him how to read and write. The story follows Rudolph as he works to return home.

The film will star Mao Inoue as Rudolph and Ryōhei Suzuki as Ippaiattena. The film will be Suzuki's first foray into voice acting. Other voices include: Akio Ohtsuka, Nana Mizuki, Yuka Terasaki, Rio Sasaki, Norito Yashima, and Arata Furuta.

Kunihiko Yuyama (Pokémon films) and Motonori Sakakibara (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Pac-World) are co-directing the film using a script by Yoichi Kato (Yōkai Watch, Aikatsu!). OLM Digital and Sprite Animation Studios are animating the film.

Saitō published Rudolph to Ippaiattena, the first of the children's book series, in 1986. He followed up with the second and third books, Rudolph to Tomodachi Hitoridachi and Rudolph to Ikuneko Kuroneko, in 1988 and 2002, respectively. He published the fourth and latest book in the series, Rudolph to Snow White, in 2012.
