North American manga and novel publisher Vertical Comics announced at Anime Expo on Saturday that it has licensed NisiOisin and VOFAN's Nisemonogatari light novel series. The first of two novels is slated for April 2017.
Kodansha published the light novels in Japan in 2008. The story is set in the early 21st century as a sequel to Bakemonogatari, and it centers around the "Fire Sisters" Tsukihi and Karen Araragi. The novels inspired an 11-episode television anime in 2012.
The company announced in February that it will release NisiOisin's three Bakemonogatari novels in December 2016, January 2017, and February 2017. Vertical released NisiOisin and VOFAN's Kizumonogatari novel in December. Kizumonogatari is the third volume in the Monogatari book series, whereas Bakemonogatari comprises the first two novels in the series. Vertical marketing director Ed Chavez explained last February that his company published Kizumonogatari first because "NisiOisin's editor suggested we start there. His team is very involved in this project."
