Developer SNK teams up with Code Mystics, Inc. to revamp Neo Geo classic

PlayStation's official U.S. blog announced on Saturday that it will release Garou: Mark of the Wolves on the PlayStation Store. The game will be available for download on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita with cross buy support. The blog post did not announce a release date or price.

Developer SNK is teaming up with Code Mystics, Inc. to relaunch the classic fighting game. The new versions will have cross play functionality and multiplayer modes. The relaunch will also feature a new Gallery Mode, where players can unlock Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Fatal Fury art. Additionally, the original soundtrack will be available to sample from the game's main menu. SNK also adopted Code Mystics' netcode for the new versions' online multiplayer mode.

Sony and SNK decided to reboot Garou: Mark of the Wolves for the 25th anniversary of the Fatal Fury franchise. Additionally, Sony had conducted a poll in 2014 asking fans which Neo Geo classic they'd like to see on the PlayStation Network, and SNK said "a huge number of fans" voted for Garou: Mark of the Wolves in that poll.

The original Garou: Mark of the Wolves debuted in 1999 in arcades, and then on the Neo Geo in 2000. SNK later ported the game to the Sega Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, iOS, Android, XBox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network (although the PS2 and PSN releases were only in Japan). The original game was the eighth installment in the Fatal Fury series.
