Tokyopop to Release 2-Part Beauty and the Beast Manga
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Tokyopop founder Stu Levy announced at the "Tokyopop Relaunch" panel at Comic Con International in San Diego on Saturday that Tokyopop will release a new two-part manga adaptation of Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast film starring Emma Watson. The film will debut in the United States on March 17. Tokyopop also previewed an image from the manga (pictured below).
One part of the manga will tell the story from BELLE's perspective, and the other will tell the story from Beast's perspective. The manga will be two volumes long, and will feature original art from Japan.
Tokyopop will also release the first volume of Yumi Tsukirino's Disney Stitch! manga on August 10, and it will also release Jun Asuga's Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas manga on October 5.
Tokyopop teased at its Comic Con International panel last year that it would have upcoming original "manga" collaborations with Disney. Levy said that the works would be original and would possibly have Japanese artists.
The company announced at its Anime Expo panel last year that it was planning to begin publishing manga again in 2016. Tokyopop had shut down its North American publishing operations in May 2011 but collaborated with other companies to release manga and world manga after the closure.
