Author Ryohgo Narita revealed on Twitter on Wednesday that he is working on the final "1935" volume of his Baccano! novel series.

Narita apologized to fans who expected the series to end in the latest volume, Baccano! 1935-D Luckstreet Boys, which shipped on Wednesday. [Highlight white text to read spoilers] "If I just brought Firo and Melvi's story to a close, it would have ended with this volume," he said. "But this is the result of me selfishly wanting to include as many of the characters as possible, since it's the end."

Narita began the ongoing Baccano! light novel series with illustrations by Katsumi Enami in 2003. Yen Press is releasing the series in North America. The series inspired an anime adaptation in 2007.

Funimation licensed the anime and describes the story:

America, 1930: Prohibition and the criminal empires it spawned are still going strong. Gang wars are a matter of course, violent death just a part of life. Even in these brutal times, however, certain atrocities stand out. What happens on the soon-to-be-retired train the Flying Pussyfoot is one of them. The fate of several warring bootlegger factions in New York is Another. That they involve undying monsters is only part of the reason why.

Narita also announced that he will launch a Durarara! spinoff novel titled Orihara Izaya to, Kassai o (With Izaya Orihara, Applause) on October 8 with illustrations by Durarara! illustrator Suzuhito Yasuda. The two-part story will begin when Izaya visits a stadium and a murder takes place.

Narita's Durarara! novels have inspired multiple adaptations, including television anime, video games, and manga series. Yen Press publishes the light novels and manga in North America, while Aniplex of America licensed the anime. The novels' first arc ended in 2014 with the 13th volume, and Narita relaunched the series as Durarara SH.

Update: Narita is working on the final volume that takes place in 1935, not the final volume of the entire series. Thanks, Lovely, Peophin, and wallofillusion.
