Squid Girl's Masahiro Anbe Launches New School Club Manga

This year's 40th issue of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion announced on Thursday that Masahiro Anbe (Squid Girl) will begin a new series titled Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyū-bu (Gather! Mystery Research Club) in the 44th issue on September 29. The "girls comedy" series follows a protagonist named Daisuke who cannot decide on a club to join because he does not have anything he particularly wants to do. He has an encounter that changes his school life.

Anbe launched Squid Girl in Weekly Shōnen Champion in 2007 and ended the series in February. The manga received two 12-episode television anime series adaptations. The first season premiered in 2010, while the second season premiered in 2011. Crunchyroll streamed both television anime as they aired in Japan under the title Squid Girl, and also streamed two original video DVDs. Media Blasters licensed both seasons, and it released the first season on DVD in 2011, and in a complete Blu-ray Disc collection in 2012.

Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine also announced that Naoki Serizawa's Biohazard: heavenly island manga is returning from hiatus in the 42nd issue on September 15. The manga began its most recent hiatus in this year's 30th issue on June 23. The manga had recently returned from a two-month hiatus on May 12 and a three-month hiatus on January 7.

Serizawa launched the Biohazard: heavenly island manga in Weekly Shōnen Champion on January 15, and Akita Shoten will ship the fourth compiled volume on September 8. The manga's story centers around the film crew for Idol Survival, the internationally popular television program where swimsuited idols compete in games. The crew arrive on the same isolated South American island that TerraSave member Claire Redfield is visiting on an investigation.

Serizawa's earlier Biohazard: Marhawa Desire (Resident Evil: The Marhawa Desire) manga launched with a prologue chapter in the inaugural issue of CAPCOM's CapBom! magazine in 2011, and the series ended last year. Viz Media publishes the manga in North America.

Mitsudomoe creator Norio Sakurai is also beginning a short series in the same upcoming Weekly Shōnen Champion issue on September 29.
