U.S. sales data also shows increase in revenue from merchandise

Analytics company Slice Intelligence reported on Friday that the number of paying Pokémon Go players in the United States peaked on July 15 and has since dropped 79 percent.

However, Pokémon Go continues to generate more revenue than other mobile games: in August the app earned 28.4 percent of the total mobile game revenue in the United States. By comparison, Candy Crush Saga, the next most lucrative mobile game, earned 4.5 percent of the total.

Slice Intelligence also reported a spike in Pokémon merchandise sales among U.S. online shoppers. Toy and game sales in August 2016 saw a 233 percent increase in revenue over last August's sales.

The Pokémon Go iOS and Android app launched in select countries including the United States on July 6, and has since launched in more than 50 countries. It is slated to launch for Apple Watch. The "Pokémon GO Plus" accessory will ship on Friday.
