Pantheon to Publish Gengoroh Tagame's My Brother's Husband Manga

Story of a Japanese man and his late brother's Canadian husband gets English release next summer

Massive Goods announced on Monday that Pantheon Books (Maus, Persepolis) will publish Gengoroh Tagame's My Brother’s Husband (Otōto no Otto) manga in English. The first two-in-one omnibus volume is slated for June 2017.

Massive Goods describes the story:

My Brother’s Husband is a family drama that begins with the auspicious arrival of Mike, a Canadian who has come to pay respects to the family of his recently deceased Japanese husband Ryoji, whose only remaining immediate family member is Yaichi—an identical twin brother. As Mike gets accustomed to Japanese morays and the surprising idiosyncrasies of living with Yaichi and his daughter Kana, the sleepy Japanese suburb also learns the true meaning of family.

Tagame began serializing the ongoing manga in Futabasha's Monthly Action magazine in November 2014 and the third compiled volume will ship on October 12.

Anne Ishii is translating My Brother’s Husband and Chip Kidd is designing the release. Both have worked on other English releases of other manga by Tagame, including the short story collection The Passion of Gengoroh Tagame, the first English release of Tagame's manga.

Tagame is best known for his gay erotic manga. German publisher Bruno Gmünder Verlag has published Tagame's Gunji, Fisherman’s Lodge, Endless Game, and The Contracts of the Fall manga in English, and Fantagraphics' Massive: Gay Erotic Manga and the Men Who Make It anthology featured work by Tagame.
