The competition will also highlight the works of The Case of Hana & Alice director Shunji Iwai, although the competition will not screen that particular film.

The festival will screen 16 films in competition, and two of the films are Japanese: Daigo Matsui's Japanese Girls Never Die live-action film and Kiki Sugino's Snow Woman live-action film

The festival offered a special Gundam program last year, and two years ago the festival hosted a large event dedicated to the works of Hideaki Anno.

Update: Tokyo International Film Festival clarified that the Genocidal Organ premiere is a preview of part of the film, not the entire film.
