Manansala is 5th SPJA CEO, Chiang had been acting CEO since April

The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) announced on Thursday that it has appointed Ray Chiang as Chief Operating Officer, and Mark Manansala as as Chief Executive Officer.

Chiang had been serving as acting CEO since April 4 when former CEO Marc Perez left the company.

Manansala previously served as the SPJA's vice-chairman of the Board of Directors. He volunteered for Anime Expo 2009's Access Control department, and continued to become more involved with the SPJA over the years. He was elected to the SPJA Board in 2012, serving two consecutive terms until October 16, when he resigned from the Board to join the SPJA. Outside of the SPJA, Manansala has pursued a career at US Bank and Wells Fargo. Manansala is the SPJA's fifth formal CEO since 2005.

SPJA is the California-based non-profit organization behind Anime Expo. The group revealed in January that it is "expanding, refocusing and rebranding." SPJA stated in January that it plans to open an additional office in Tokyo sometime this year in hopes of being able to "develop a closer working relationship with the industry we support." The SPJA stated at that time that it will reveal its new brand name and logo in the coming months.

Anime Expo celebrated its 25th anniversary at this year's event in July, and this year's event set a new record of 100,420 unique attendees.
