Starmyu Season 2 Reveals New Cast, Story, Visual

The NBCUniversal booth at Animate Girls Festival revealed a teaser visual for the second season of the STARMYU anime series on Saturday. The event also revealed the second season's new cast members and story introduction.

The new cast members are:

Toshiyuki Morikawa as Asaki Uozumi, an "Ancient" coach

Ryōtarō Okiayu as Ritsu Saotome, an "Ancient" coach

Souichiro Hoshi as Taiga Futaba, an "Ancient" coach

The "Ancients" are special coaches who train and improve the second-year students until the summer, when the actual rehearsals begin for the Shadow & Lights musical. All three were in the Kaō Council during the same year as Kaito's big brother Haruto.

The following story introduction contains spoilers for the first season:

"I don't know how to give up on my dreams…"

Yūta Hoshitani, who enrolled in the prestigious Ayanagi Academy for music entertainment, passed the first-year test to become a musical department student in his second year. However, the new school year immediately presents new trials for the returning students.

The first task on the second-year curriculum is supporting the graduation stage performance of Ōtori and the other graduating Kaō Council members. There are five roles known as "second-year training roles" in the legendary musical Shadow & Lights.

Every year, a team of only five second-year students get to step on stage as performers in the musical. It is a great honor for the musical department students, to co-star with their respected former leaders. To earn a ticket to glory, Hoshitani and 24 other new musical department students take on the training auditions.

At that moment, the coming-of-age slapstick musical story raises the curtains once more.

The new season will premiere next spring.

The 12-episode STARMYU television anime series premiered in Japan in October 2015. Funimation streamed the series as it aired.

Shunsuke Tada (Kuroko's Basketball, Prince of Tennis) directed the series at C-Station (Dragonar Academy), and Sayaka Harada was in charge of the series scripts. Asami Watanabe designed the characters, and Tadako (Arashi's "Love so sweet," "Monster") was responsible for the dance sequences.

The anime project also includes a two-part original video anime (OVA) project. The first OVA, which serves as episode 13 of the anime, shipped on July 27. The second OVA, which serves as episode 14 of the anime, shipped on September 21. NBCUniversal also announced on Saturday a Spring 2017 stage musical adaptation of the first season.
