Pokémon Go Developers to Reveal Details on New Pokémon on December 12

The staff of the Pokémon Go smartphone game announced on Wednesday that it will reveal details on the first addition of new Pokémon to the game on Monday, December 12.

Pokémon Go initially offered 145 Pokémon — all of the original Kanto Pokémon except Ditto, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mew, and Mewtwo. The game added Ditto in November.

The staff also announced on Wednesday that Sprint will be the game's first partner in the United States, similar to the way McDonalds is a partner for the game in Japan. More than 10,500 U.S. Sprint locations — including Sprint, Boost Mobile, and Sprint at Radioshack stores — will become PokéStops and Gyms.

The game received an update on Tuesday. The developers detailed the changes:

  • Trainers will be able to transfer multiple Pokémon at a time to Professor Willow. To use this function, press and hold on a Pokémon.
  • Pokémon type icons have been added to the Gym battle approach and Gym battle screen.
  • The total Candy count for your Buddy Pokémon has been added to the buddy information screen.
  • The total kilometers a buddy has walked has been added to the information screen of each Pokémon that has ever been your buddy.
  • Minor text fixes.

The Pokémon Go iOS and Android app launched in select countries including the United States on July 6, and has since launched in more than 100 countries and territories. The "Pokémon GO Plus" accessory shipped on September 16.
