Evangelion's Studio Khara animates prequel to 2nd game

The North American and European PlayStation YouTube channels announced on Wednesday that they will stream the Gravity Rush The Animation: Overture, the prequel "special animation" to the upcoming Gravity Rush 2 PlayStation 4 game, on December 26. The European channel specifies that the video will stream at 4:00 p.m. GMT (11:00 a.m. EST).

Both channels streamed the trailer for the anime:

The anime will air on TV Tokyo on December 25 at 25:05 (effectively, on December 26 at 1:05 a.m.).

Studio Khara (Evangelion films) produced the prequel, which bridges the gap between the original Gravity Rush and the second game. The anime will ship on Blu-ray Disc with first print editions of the game in Japan.

The game is slated for January 18 in Europe, January 19 in Japan, and January 20 in North America after a delay. The developers will release a planned premium DLC for the game for free due to the delay. The free DLC "Gravity Rush 2 Another Story: The Ark of Time -- Raven's Choice" will be available in March.

Those who pre-order the game from participating retailers will receive alternate white costume DLC for Kat, as well as the Select Soundtrack featuring nine tracks from the game. Those who pre-order the game on the PlayStation Store will receive an instant reward of 10 PSN avatars.

The sequel game introduces the new character Angel, "who shows up to help Kat when she's in a bind, quickly dispensing of a group of pesky Nevi enemies. Angel is a superheroine with an aggressive and wild fighting style, and packs an overwhelming punch to her attacks. She also has a crystallization ability that helps her to regenerate health instantly."

The game will also feature three gravity manipulation styles: in addition to the regular gravity manipulation from the first game, the game introduces Luna style, which makes the player character Kat lighter and quicker, and Jupiter style, which makes Kat heavier and more powerful. The game will also feature tag team battles.

A remastered PlayStation 4 version of the original 2012 Gravity Rush PlayStation Vita game shipped in Japan last December, on February 9 in North America, and on February 10 in Europe.
