Top-Selling Animation in Japan on Blu-ray Disc/DVD by Series: 2016

The first Mr. Osomatsu DVD volume (limited first pressing) not only topped the animation/special effects (tokusatsu) DVD volumes chart for 2016, but all eight volumes ranked #1 to #8. It has been 13 years since the last series that dominated the top #8 ranking spots of the year, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed. The same first Mr. Osomatsu DVD volume was #18 on the overall DVD chart with 66,275 copies sold.
In addition, the first Mr. Osomatsu DVD/Blu-ray Disc volume topped the combined animation/special effects (tokusatsu) DVD+Blu-ray Disc category with 114,548 copies sold. (The Blu-ray Disc version sold 48,273 copies to rank #29 on the overall Blu-ray Disc chart.)
The first two Love Live! Sunshine!! Blu-ray Disc volumes ranked #1 and #2 on the animation/special effects (tokusatsu) series Blu-ray Disc category with 83,074 and 60,166 copies, respectively. They ranked #10 and #21 on the overall Blu-ray Disc chart. Love Live! The School Idol Movie (special limited edition) sold 224,278 at #5 on the overall Blu-ray Disc chart.
