Chain Chronicle TV Anime's Prologue Video Streamed

12-episode anime adaptation of Sega's smartphone game premieres on January 7

Sega began streaming a three-minute promotional video on Thursday for the Chain Chronicle: Haecceitas no Hikari (Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas) television anime adaptation of Sega's Chain Chronicle smartphone game. The prologue video introduces the setting, main characters, and plot of the series, and previews some of the anime's fight scenes.

The end of the video features the anime's opening theme song "My Liberation" by Nano. A trailer streamed last month previewed Nao Tōyama's ending theme song, "True Destiny." Tōyama is also performing the film version's opening theme song "Chain the world," and Nano is performing the film version's ending theme "PARAISO."

The anime project has both a theatrical and a television version. The theatrical version is split into three films, with each film screening in a two-week limited engagement in theaters. The first film debuted in Japan on December 3, the second will debut on January 14, and the third film will debut on February 11. The 12-episode television anime version will premiere on January 7. Each of the three anime films has the same story content as four television episodes.

Crunchyroll and FUNimation Entertainment are streaming the anime films and television anime. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime in Japanese with English subtitles, while Funimation is offering an English SimulDub.

Crunchyroll and Funimation describe the story:

This is the story of the Chain Chronicle, a book that describes everything that happens in the world.

The citizens of the remote continent of Yggd once thought that there was nothing beyond their continent. The continent was divided into several regions, each with its own king. Though there were small skirmishes amongst them, a lord, chosen by the kings in conference, always maintained balance -- until the evil Black Army arrived.

"All will be engulfed in black."

The Volunteer Army, led by Yuri, was no match for the Black Army. During the fighting, the Lord of Black captures half of the Chain Chronicle, as well as the capital. During their retreat, Yuri and the Volunteer Army encounter a boy fighting the Black Army all by himself.

So begins the story of the Chain Chronicle, of the Volunteer Army's and Black Army's battles for the fate of the world, and of friendship.

Masashi Kudo (Kyō no Asuka Show, Hayate the Combat Butler! Cuties, Ikki Tousen: Extravaganza Epoch) is directing the anime and designing the characters at Telecom Animation Film and Graphinica. Touko Machida (Allison & Lillia, The IDOLM@STER, Chaika the Coffin Princess) is supervising the scripts. Daisuke Jinba (Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens, Kimi ni Todoke - From Me to You, anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day) is in charge of art direction. Masato Kōda (Arpeggio of Blue Steel - Ars Nova, Maria the Virgin Witch, KonoSuba – God’s blessing on this wonderful world!!) is composing the music, and Shōji Hata (Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal, Fairy Tail, One-Punch Man) is in charge of sound direction.
