Nao Tōyama, Hikaru Midorikawa star in 6 semi-monthly shorts

Tama-Pawns, an anime series set in a pawn shop on an alternate animal world, will debut for free on the YouTube and Niconico streaming services on January 27. A trailer for this semi-monthly series of six anime shorts began streaming on Sunday:

The cast includes:

Nao Tōyama as Mihiro, only daughter of a pawn shopkeeper

Hikaru Midorikawa as werewolf shopkeeper

Yui Horie as Nyamashita, Mihiro's superior on the shop's staff

Norio Wakamoto as Tama-kaichō, "don" boss of the animal world

Tesshō Genda as Shirokuma-kaichō, polar bear owner of Shirokuma pawn shop and Tama-kaichō's rival

The story follows Mihiro and begins on a day like any other. Mihiro bumps heads with a pet dog and loses consciousness. When she wakes up, she finds herself in a mysterious animal world. Mihiro discovers the shocking truth of her new situation and starts work at an animal pawn shop. She sets her sights on the day she can leave the shop and return to her former world.

The anime production cirtcle Tsukimido directed, wrote, and animated the shorts. Sko Kireji A.O. designed the characters, and Studio Mao handled the art. Dax Production produced the sound.

The real-life Tamaya Shichi pawn shop in Yokohama already inspired a related 2015 original anime short titled "Tama-Sichi" (a reference to an abbreviation of the shop's name).
