2017 Soreike! Anpanman Film's Title, Story, July 1 Premiere Revealed

Film introduces original character based on late Anpanman creator's previous work

The staff of the Anpanman anime franchise announced the title and release date on Sunday for the 29th anime film in the franchise. The film is titled Soreike! Anpanman Buruburu no Takarasagashi Daibōken! (Let's go! Anpanman: Buruburu's Big Treasure Hunt Adventure!), and it will open in Japan on July 1. The film introduces an original character based on the hero of Yasashii Raion (Kind Lion), a picture book by the late creator of Anpanman Takashi Yanase.

The film centers on Buruburu, a cowardly lion who is a member of a clan of treasure hunters. He is given a treasure map by his father. With the help of Anpanman, he sets out on an adventure to prove himself to the other clan members. Baikinman, however, appears and schemes to take the treasure for himself.

The song "Taiyō ga Kirakira" (The Sun is Sparkling) serves as a motif for the film. The song is currently used in a musical show at Anpanman Children's Museums across Japan. The film will again feature sing-and-dance-along songs including "Anpanman March" and "Let's go! Baikinman."

The Soreike! Anpanman television anime series began in 1988, and new Anpanman films have opened each summer since 1989. The 2014 film Soreike! Anpanman: Ringo Bōya to Minna no Negai (Let's Go! Anpanman: The Apple Boy and Everyone's Wishes) was the first film since Anpanman creator Takashi Yanase's passing.

The 28th film in the franchise, Soreike! Anpanman Omocha no Hoshi no Nanda to Runda (Let's Go! Anpanman: Nanda and Runda of the Toy Star), opened in Japan on July 2, 2016.
