CDJapan: Avex Pictures Restricts Overseas BD, DVD, CD Shipments

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Yuri!!! on Ice, other titles no longer shipping outside Japan as of Wednesday

Online retailer CDJapan announced on December 14 that Avex Pictures is restricting exports of its Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and CD titles. The company publishes anime such as Yuri!!! on Ice and Mr. Osomatsu.

The majority of titles that Avex Pictures publishes will become unavailable for shipment outside Japan on Wednesday at 4:00 a.m. ET. After that time, the affected titles will no longer be available to order for shipment outside Japan through CDJapan. The website will fulfill existing orders and orders placed before that time. The restriction does not apply to figures and other character goods.

Avex Pictures' restriction applies to all online shops in Japan.

The second Blu-ray Disc home video volume of the Yuri!!! on Ice anime sold an estimated 36,470 copies in its first week, and ranked #1 on Oricon's animation and overall Blu-ray Disc charts for January 23-29. The volume shipped on January 27. This is the anime's first home video release to top the overall chart, and it has also outsold the first Blu-ray Disc volume in first-week sales (35,453 copies). The first Blu-ray Disc volume ranked #2 on the overall chart.

The second DVD volume, which shipped on the same day, sold 15,381 copies and ranked #2 on the general DVD chart, while also ranking #1 in the DVD animation chart.

The Yuri!!! on Ice soundtrack also ranked #4 on the weekly CD album chart for the week of December 26 to January 1, and had sold 56,878 physical copies as of January 1. The soundtrack had ranked #1 on Oricon's weekly digital album chart for the week of December 19-25, and ranked #3 on Oricon's weekly CD album chart for the same time period.

The Mr. Osomatsu home video releases also topped sales charts in Japan. Its the first television anime to have two consecutive top-selling DVD releases in a row. The fourth and fifth volumes ranked #1 on the Oricon charts. The sixth and seventh volumes followed suit.
