Idea Factory International announced on Tuesday that it will release Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds (Hakuōki Shinkai: Kaze no Shō) for PlayStation Vita on May 16 in North America and May 19 in Europe. The game will be available physically and digitally, and it will be compatible with PlayStation TV.
The game, which shipped in Japan in September 2015, remakes the original Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan 2008 PlayStation 2 game. The remake received a sequel titled Hakuōki Shinkai: Hana no Shō on June 16 in Japan. The sequel tackles different parts of the first game's story.
The original game has since been ported into the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS platforms. Aksys Games localized and released Hakuōki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom for the PSP in February 2012, Hakuōki: Memories of the Shinsengumi for the Nintendo 3DS in September 2013, and Hakuōki: Stories of the Shinsengumi for the PS3 in May 2014.
The story of the game and its anime adaptation center around the historical Shinsengumi samurai group in Kyoto during the 19th century.
