DMM Establishes DMM Pictures Label to Enter Anime Industry

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Company aims to work on 20 titles per year

Internet service and game developer DMM established a new "DMM Pictures" animation label on Friday. The label aims to participate in the anime industry as a license business and as part of anime production committees starting this spring. The new label will be part of the production of fewer than 10 titles this year, but aims to eventually participate in the production of as many as 20 titles every year.

Some of the anime titles that the label is already involved in include this April's The Eccentric Family 2 and Kenka Banchō Otome: Girl Beats Boys anime. Additionally, the company is involved in the television anime of Eto Mori's DIVE!! novel and the television anime of Naoko Kodama's yuri manga NTR: Netsuzou Trap, which both debut in July.

DMM Pictures is also involved in Production I.G's The Legend of the Galactic Heroes anime project, and holds part of the overseas and domestic rights to the new project.

Some of DMM's original games, such as Kan Colle and Touken Ranbu, have already inspired or are inspiring anime adaptations. The television anime for Kan Colle premiered in January 2015, and received an anime film that opened in Japan in November. Touken Ranbu was adapted into the Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru anime in October by Doga Kobo and will get a separate series titled Katsugeki! Tōken Ranbu in July by ufotable.
