Series follows girl trying to save struggling bowling alley

The May issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine revealed on Thursday that Hiroki Yagami will launch a new bowling manga titled Tokiwa Bowl no Megami-sama in the June issue on May 2. The first 74-page chapter will have a color opening page and feature on the magazine's front cover.

The manga will focus on a bowling alley on the brink of failure. Kaede Tokiwa is struggling to revive the place when she meets Tokio Asahina, a boy with a mysterious air about him.

Yagami ended his Dear Boys Overtime manga in Monthly Shonen Magazine on January 6. Yagami launched the manga in February 2016 as a sequel to the long-running Dear Boys manga. Kodansha shipped the third and final compiled volume on February 17. The epilogue manga tells the stories of different characters after the events of the main Dear Boys Act 3 manga.

Yagami launched the first Dear Boys manga 1989 and ended it in 1997. The series has 40 million copies in print. The Dear Boys: The Early Days prequel manga followed from February to May 1997. Yagami launched the sequel manga Dear Boys Act II in 1997 and ended it in 2008. The sequel won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen manga in 2007. Yagami launched Dear Boys Act 3 in December 2008 and ended it in December 2015.

The manga inspired a 26-episode television anime series that premiered in Japan in 2003. Bandai Entertainment released the anime (retitled as Hoop Days) in English in 2005.
