TV5 Streams Ad for Knights of Sidonia Airing

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Anime begins airing on April 12

Philippine television channel TV5 began streaming a commercial on Thursday for its airing of the Knights of Sidonia television anime. The anime will premiere on April 12 at 9:30 p.m. under the channel's recently-revived ANiMEGA anime programming block.

The channel is partnering with Southeast Asian channel and content provider Aniplus-Asia for its slate of anime content for the programming block. Aniplus-Asia describes the anime:

Sidonia is the last known human settlement flying through space to escape the Gauna, gigantic alien monsters bent on its destruction. Sidonia has it's own giant Guardians, piloted by their very best pilots, synthetic humans who are constantly training to be the best. Tanikaze Nagate has been living in Sidonia's underground layer since birth, training on an old Guardian simulator until his grandfather passed away. Now, rejoining the synthetic humans, will he be able to protect Sidonia from the evolving Gauna.

The first 12-episode season of Knights of Sidonia premiered in Japan in April 2014. The second 12-episode season, titled Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine, premiered in April 2015. Netflix streamed both seasons of the anime adaptation after they aired in Japan.

The anime is based on Tsutomu Nihei's manga of the same name, which Nihei launched in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in 2009, and ended in September 2015. Kodansha published 15 compiled book volumes for the series.

Nihei launched a new manga titled Ningyō no Kuni (Country of Dolls) in Kodansha's Shonen Sirius magazine on February 25, and North American publisher Kodansha Comics debuted the manga with the title APOSIMZ. The manga is set in the same universe as Knights of Sidonia, centering on the only other named "seed ship" that escaped the Earth apart from the Sidonia.
