The organizers of the Anime Expo convention announced on Monday that it will host Ali Project and Minori Chihara as part of the convention's Anisong World Matsuri music festival event. They will perform on July 1 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

Ali Project is composed of Arika Takarano, who performs the vocals and writes the lyrics for the songs, and Mikiya Katakura, who composes and arranges the music. The pair have performed theme songs for such anime as Noir, CLAMP School Detectives, Maria Watches Over Us Season 2: Printemps, Rozen Maiden, .hack//Roots, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Linebarrels of Iron, Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~, Katanagatari, Another, and Chivalry of a Failed Knight.

Minori Chihara is both a voice actress and singer. She made her voice acting debut in 2004, voicing the character of Aya Natsume in Tenjho Tenge. She is perhaps best known for her role as Yuki Nagato in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime. She has also voiced roles in such anime as Lucky Star (Minami Iwasaki), Minami-ke (Chiaki Minami), Saki (Tōka Ryūmonbuchi), Hyōka (Yuri Kōnosu), Beyond the Boundary (Mitsuki Nase), and Sound! Euphonium (Kaori Nakaseko). She has performed theme, character, and image songs for many of the anime in which she has starred, including Tenjho Tenge, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Minami-ke, Ga-Rei: Zero, The Qwaser of Stigmata, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, and Beyond the Boundary.

Anisong World Matsuri will hold concerts on Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1 during the convention. The festival event ran at last year's Anime Expo 2016 as a collaboration between Lantis, Sony Music Entertainment Japan Inc., Amuse, Bandai Visual, Bandai Namco Live Creative, and Anime Consortium Japan. Otakon will also host the event in August for its East Coast debut.

This year's Anime Expo convention will run from July 1 to July 4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. In addition, the convention will formally include a preview night a day before on June 30. The Super Dimension Fortress Macross singer and voice actress Mari Iijima will return to the convention this year. Akira Himekawa, the manga creator duo known for their manga adaptations of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda games, is also attending the convention. Musicians ☆Taku Takahashi, Teddyloid, and Pa's Lam System will perform at the convention's Neon District concert this year.
