Bandai Namco Holdings Sees Record-High Sales in Fiscal Year 2017

Net sales reached 600 billion yen for first time in company history

Bandai Namco Holdings released its financial report for the 2017 fiscal year (which ended on March 31) on May 10. The company reported net sales of 620,061,000,000 yen (about US$5.46 billion), a 7.7% increase from the previous year, and the first time in the company's history that net sales reached 600 billion yen. The company also reported an operating profit of 63,238,000,000 yen (about US$557 million) – a 27.4% increase from the previous year – and a recurring profit of 63,290,000,000 yen (about US$558 million), a 24.7% increase from the previous year. Both represent the first time the company went above 60 billion for both figures. The net profit for the year is 44,159,000,000 yen (about US$389 million).

Bandai Namco Holdings recorded its "toys and hobbies" segment as having sold 193,229,000,000 yen (about US$1.70 billion), a 6.4% decrease compared to last year, but with an increase in sales in the "network entertainment" (380,273,000,000 yen, about US$3.35 billion, 18.5% increase) and "visual and music production" (56,290,000,000 yen, about US$496 million, 8.3% increase) segments.

Sales of home console games amounted to 86.6 billion yen (about US$763 million), a 9.6% decrease from last year. Arcade game machine sales amounted to 62.2 billion yen (about US$548 million), a 7.4% increase from last year. Sales for amusement facilities amounted to 60.9 billion yen (about US$537 million), a 3.9% increase from last year.

The "visual and music production" segment reported an operating profit of 13,436,000,000 yen (about US$118 million), a 15.2% increase from last year. Physical sales of video and audio sold 19.1 billion yen (about US$168 million), exceeding start-of-year sales projections of 17.3 billion yen (about US$152 million). Anime production, licensing, and events sales of 37.1 billion yen (about US$327 million) also exceeded start-of-year sales projects of 25.7 billion (about US$226 million). Physical sales are projected to sell 17.3 billion yen (about US$152 million) in the next fiscal year, while anime production, licensing, and events sales are projected for 32.7 billion yen (about US$288 million) for the next fiscal year.

The "toys and hobbies" category's operating profit was 10,991,000,000 (about US$96.92 million), a 33.9% decrease from last year. Sales from Yo-kai Watch products decreased by 69.8% from last year, but Kamen Rider product sales increased from last year by 29%. Sales for Gundam, Anpanman, and Precure saw modest increases.

The company's projected figures for the next fiscal year include net sales of 600 billion yen (about US$5.29 billion), an operating profit of 57 billion yen (about US$502 million), a recurring profit of 58 billion yen (about US$511 million), and a net profit of 40 billion yen (about US$352 million).
