Film opens on June 15 in Singapore, on June 29 in Malaysia

Southeast Asian film distributor Purple Plan announced on Tuesday that it will open Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachi Kochi Daibōken (Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi), the 37th film in the Doraemon anime franchise, in Singapore and Malaysia. The film opens in Singapore on June 15, and in Malaysia on June 29.

The film has an original story in which Nobita and his friends find a strange frozen ring, which guides them to Antarctica in search of its owner. There, they stumble upon some ancient ruins and begin an adventure, facing the danger that the Earth may become frozen.

The film opened in Japan on March 4. Atsushi Takahashi (Blue Exorcist film, Rideback director) directed and scripted the film.

The film topped the Japanese box office and earned 692 million yen (about US$6.07 million) in its first week. The film eventually earned more than 4.14 billion yen (about US$38.2 million) after 44 days at the box office in Japan. The film is the highest-grossing anime in the current 12-installment Doraemon film series that began with the 2006 film Doraemon: Nobita no Kyōryū.
