2018 Doraemon Film Inspired by Stevenson's Treasure Island Novel

Kazuaki Imai directs March 2018 film based on Genki Kawamura's script

The staff of the Doraemon anime franchise revealed details on next year's Doraemon film on Wednesday. The new film is titled Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Treasure Island). The franchise's 38th film is slated to open in Japan in March 2018. The story will be based on Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island novel.

Kazuaki Imai, an episode director on the Doraemon television anime, is directing the project as his first Doraemon franchise film. Novelist Genki Kawamura (your name., The Boy and The Beast producer) is penning the script.

Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachi Kochi Daibōken (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi), the 37th anime film in the Doraemon franchise, has earned more than 4.14 billion yen (about US$38.2 million). The film is the highest-grossing anime in the current 12-installment Doraemon film series that began with the 2006 film Doraemon: Nobita no Kyōryū. The 2017 film opened in Japan on March 4.
