Kōsuke Toriumi cast as new character Tekkisen

The official website for the Thunderbolt Fantasy puppet-show project began streaming a teaser video on Sunday for the Thunderbolt Fantasy Shōshi Ikken side-story project.

The video also previews the project's cast:

  • Junichi Suwabe as Shāng Bù Huàn (Shōfukan) / Rèn Wú Fēng (Jin Muhō)
  • Kōsuke Toriumi as Lǐn Xuě Yā (Rin Setsu A) / Lüè Fēng Qiè Chén (Ryō Fū Setsujin)
  • Isshin Chiba as Tekkisen
  • Nobuyuki Hiyama as Shā Wú Shēng (Setsu Mu Shō) / Míng Fèng Jué Shā (Mei Hō Kessatsu)

The video previews a new glasses-wearing character named Shō Kyō Ken. The website for the franchise also revealed a new visual.

Thunderbolt Fantasy Shōshi Ikken will adapt the "Satsumushō-hen" (Shā Wú Shēng Chapter) story from the Thunderbolt Fantasy: Tōriken Kōki Gaiden (Thunderbolt Fantasy Side Story) novel that Nitroplus published on April 7. Thunderbolt Fantasy Shōshi Ikken will also adapt a new story about "Shōfukan" (Shāng Bù Huàn) written by Gen Urobuchi. Nitroplus hasn't yet revealed what format the video adaptation will take (ie: TV, film, net series, etc.).

A second season of the original Thunderbolt Fantasy series is green-lit for 2018.

Urobuchi (Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, Aldnoah.Zero) was credited with the first season's original work, and he also wrote the scripts and served as chief supervisor. Nitroplus was credited with the character designs, and Good Smile Company was credited as the "modeling adviser." PILI Multimedia Inc., a well-known hand puppet drama production company in Taiwan, produced the series. Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Aldnoah.Zero, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) composed the music and Yoshikazu Iwanami was the sound director. T.M. Revolution performed the theme song "Raimei."

The first 13-episode series premiered in July 2016 in Japan, and Crunchyroll streamed the series outside of Asia.
