Liden Films, Dwango's Original Lost Song Anime Premieres on Netflix in 2018

Fantasy series' promo video, main staff, story also revealed

Netflix announced on Wednesday that it will stream the original television anime project Lost Song globally in 2018. The company announced that the series is a co-production between LIDEN FILMS and Dwango that will run for 12 episodes. The official YouTube channel of Netflix Japan also began streaming a promotional video for the anime that features comments from voice actors Yukari Tamura and Konomi Suzuki, who star in the series.

Netflix describes the anime's story:

Rin (Konomi Suzuki), an energetic girl who loves to eat, lives in a verdant frontier village. Deep within the royal palace in the bustling capital city, the songstress Finis (Yukari Tamura) spends her days in solitude. Both share a special power no other person has. A miraculous power that can heal wounds, create water and stir the wind -- the power of song. Guided by destiny, the two young women each face an arduous journey with the power of song. The shadow of war looms over the kingdom, tainting even the miraculous songs with the blood of innocents. Loved ones meet their deaths as silent screams echo through a stone prison. As two destinies intersect, will the final song be one of despair, hope or...?

Junpei and Morita are directing the anime and writing the script. Tomonori Fukuda (Robotics;Notes) is providing the original character designs. Aki Hata (Ange Vierge, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya theme song lyrics) is in charge of lyrics, and Yūsuke Shirato (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, Ange Vierge theme song composition) is composing the music. Deho Gallery is providing the background art.

MAGES., Suzuki's current agency, announced the project as a television anime in January. The anime stars:

Konomi Suzuki as Rin

Yukari Tamura as Finis

The anime's tagline is, "That song changes even the destiny of the stars."

MAGES. revealed Rin's character design in November, and revealed Finis' character design in December, but did not state at either time that both were part of the same project. While Rin's image was hosted on a "finis-anime.com" website, Finis' image was hosted on a "rin-anime.com" website. Both now contain a link to Lost Song's official website, which contains both character visuals.

Lost Song will mark Suzuki's full-fledged voice-acting debut as a heroine in an anime. Suzuki became a professional anime song artist after winning Animax's fifth All-Japan Anison (anime song) Grand Prix singing contest in 2011. She has since performed songs for Dusk maiden of Amnesia, The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, WATAMOTE, Freezing Vibration, No Game, No Life, Lord Marksman and Vanadis, Absolute Duo, BBK/BRNK, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, and Ange Vierge. Before the upcoming new anime, Suzuki did play the minor role of a waitress in Dusk maiden of Amnesia.

Tamura is perhaps best known as the voice of protagonist Nanoha Takamachi in the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha anime franchise. She has also voiced characters from such anime as Galaxy Angel (Ranpha), Kanon (Mai Kawasumi), Clannad (Mei Sunohara), Tantei Opera Milky Holmes (Saku Tooyama), Kill la Kill (Nui Harime), and Schwarzes Marken (Beatrix Brehmer). She has performed theme songs for many of the anime in which she has voiced a role, including Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Katanagatari, Oreimo, No-Rin, and I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying.
