Arc System Works and APlus Games announced on Wednesday that they are developing Damascus Gear: Saikyō Exodus HD Edition, a new version of their Damascus Gear: Saikyō Exodus game. The game launches in Japan for the PlayStation 4 on August 29, and for the PC via Steam in winter.
The new game will have updated graphics and new features. The original game launched on the PlayStation Vita on March 22. When the new edition of the game launches on the PS4, an update for the original PS Vita game will also be released that will include the new features from the new edition.
The game is set in the year 2112, where a new type of robot called Gears have revolutionized various industries, but many of them have run wild, turning into "Rage" dedicated to the extermination of humanity. In a war that lasted 50 years, humanity finally triumphed over the Rage. The game's protagonist inherits a Gear as well as a debt of 100 million Eyn from his parents, and he must pay it back in 25 days.
The game is a top-down action game that allows players to customize their Gear from thousands of different parts divided into eight types that offer different benefits and drawbacks. Players then use their Gear to battle other Gear pilots to earn money, as well as claim parts during battle that they can then reuse. The new edition of the game has new end game content that can be unlocked after meeting certain conditions, and also adds a new "Rare Chip" item that can be exchanged for parts in the shop.
Arc System Works and APlus Games released Damascus Gear: Operation Tokyo, the first game in the series, for the PS Vita in December 2013. Arc System Works released the game in the West in March 2015.
