Square Enix's Final Fantasy IX game launched on PlayStation 4 via the PlayStation Store in the West on Tuesday. PlayStation began streaming a launch trailer for the release.
Sony also announced during its Tokyo Game Show conference on Tuesday that the game is available in Japan for the PS4 via the PlayStation Store. The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) ratings board had issued a rating for the game on the PS4 earlier today.
Square Enix most recently re-released Final Fantasy IX on iOS and Android devices in February 2016, and on PC via Steam in April 2016.
Square Enix describes the game:
Zidane and the Tantalus Theater Troupe have kidnapped Princess Garnet, the heir of Alexandria. To their surprise, however, the princess herself yearned to escape the castle. Through a series of unusual circumstances, she and her personal guard, Steiner, fall in with Zidane and set out on an incredible journey. Meeting unforgettable characters like Vivi and Quina along the way, they learn about themselves, the secrets of the Crystal, and a malevolent force that threatens to destroy their world.
Final Fantasy IX has sold over five million copies since debuting in 2000.
