Anime premieres October 7 in Japan

The official website for the second anime season based on Natsumi Eguchi's Hozuki's Coolheadedness (Hozuki no Reitetsu) manga began streaming the anime's opening movie on Monday. The video previews the opening theme song "Dai! Jigoku Jigobushi" by Jigoku no Sata All Stars (Hell's Affairs All Stars), a group of the series' cast members.

Sentai Filmworks licensed the series. In Japan, the series will premiere at night on October 7 at 1:00 a.m. (effectively October 8) on Tokyo MX1, Sun TV, and BS11. The show will air later the same night on KBS Kyoto and on October 9 on AT-X, and it will also stream on Abema TV and other platforms. The anime will have two Blu-ray Disc and DVD box sets with a total of 13 episodes.

The show's returning cast includes:

  • Hiroki Yasumoto as Hōzuki
  • Takashi Nagasako as Enma Daiō
  • Yumiko Kobayashi as Shiro
  • Hiroki Gotou as Kakisuke
  • Takashi Matsuyama as Rurio
  • Eri Kitamura as Okō
  • Touko Aoyama as Nasubi
  • Tetsuya Kakihara as Karauri
  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Karashi
  • Sumire Uesaka as Peach Maki
  • Daisuke Hirakawa as Momotaro
  • Koji Yusa as Hakutaku
  • Satomi Satou as Ichiko
  • Yui Ogura as Niko
  • Ayaka Suwa as Miki

Kazuhiro Yoneda (Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara., Yona of the Dawn) is taking over for Hiro Kaburagi as director for the second season. Production is moving from Wit Studio to Studio DEEN. Jirō Omatsuri is replacing Hirotaka Katō as character designer in the second season. Midori Gotou is again writing the scripts and TOMISIRO is again composing the music.

Sumire Uesaka will perform the ending theme song "Riverside Lovers (Naraku no Koi)" (Love in Hell).

The manga inspired a 13-episode television anime series that premiered in January 2014. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired, and Sentai Filmworks released the series on home video in February 2015 under the title Hozuki's Coolheadedness. The manga also inspired three OADs that shipped with the 17th, 18th, and 19th volumes of the manga in 2015. A new OAD shipped with a limited edition of the manga's 24th volume on March 23, and it featured animation from Studio DEEN and Yoneda as director.
