Irie launched manga in 2013, planned 20-minute anime musical adapts "Halloween Pajama in Seattle" chapter

Anime director Yasuhiro Irie (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Scorching Ping Pong Girls, Code:Breaker) revealed on Monday that he will launch a Kickstarter campaign on Friday, October 20 to adapt his Halloween Pajama manga into a 20-minute anime. The planned anime is titled "Halloween Pajama in Seattle: The Dream Catcher," and is based on the similarly-named chapter of the manga. Irie has made the chapter available in English on Kindle and PDF.

The draft campaign page on Kickstarter seeks to raise 20 million yen (about US$178,600). The anime will expand the content of the chapter to fit the 20-minute runtime. In addition, the anime will be a musical that will feature the characters singing. The production is expected to finish in December 2018.

The backer rewards listed include a thank-you message; the completed anime accessible via streaming; a subscription to a backer-exclusive magazine; a digital soundtrack; the original manga in Japanese, Italian, and English; a Kindle download for a rough sketch book for the manga; the backer's name in the ending credits sequence; a download of the anime materials (storyboards, key frames, in-betweens, photography, backgrounds); a copy of the anime on physical DVD; a tote bag with original illustration by Irie; signed shikishi; illustrated T-shirts; invitations to attend a kick-off event for the production in Tokyo, a private screening, and the after-production party; an appearance in the anime as a character for a total of 10 cuts; and an appearance in the anime as a key character. The campaign also includes backer tiers specifically for companies seeking to fund the anime's production.

Irie previously ran a successful Kickstarter campaign from March to April to translate the manga into English. The campaign describes the manga:

When 10 year old Jackie O'Wisp dreams, she encounters the strangest type of people. She comes to find out that those people are wandering ghosts, still with attachments to this world who can't go to heaven. In her alter ego, Halloween Pajama, she helps see the ghosts on their way to heaven. Jackie O'Wisp eventually learns that the devil exists in the depths of the dream world, a devil which she will confront. But will she be able to overcome it?

Irie launched the manga in 2013, and has already drawn over 400 pages for the story. Irie has also been posting animated and voiced promotional videos for the manga on his YouTube channel since 2014.

Irie recently visited Seattle as a guest at this year's SakuraCon event, which took place from April 14-16.
