Seven Seas Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it has licensed Riyoko Ikeda's one-shot manga Claudine (Claudine...!). The large-trim volume is slated for release for the first time in North America on June 26.

The company will reveal new licenses every day this week. Claudine...! is the second of two license announcements for Wednesday, after Versailles of the Dead.

Seven Seas describes the story:

Born as “Claudine...!” in a female-assigned body that doesn't reflect the man inside, this heart-wrenching story follows Claudine...! through life, pain, and the love of several women. Master shoujo mangaka Riyoko Ikeda, considered part of the influential Year 24 Group, explores gender and sexuality in early twentieth century France in this powerful tale about identity.

The manga serialized in Shueisha's Margaret magazine and had a single compiled volume release in Japan in 1978.

Ikeda is best known for her The Rose of Versailles manga, which launched in Shueisha's Weekly Margaret magazine in 1972. The manga inspired a 40-episode anime in 1979-1980, a 1990 animated film, perennial musicals by the all-female Takarazuka Revue since 1974, and a live-action 1978 French/Japanese film. Ikeda's Dear, Brother manga also inspired a television anime series.

Udon Entertainment announced in July 2015 that it has licensed Rose of Versailles series and planned to release the first two-in-one omnibus volume in the second quarter of 2016, but has not yet released the manga.
