The artist bamboo (left in image right), the vocalist/leader of the band milktub and the co-founder of the adult game brand Overdrive, revealed on the band's official blog on Wednesday that he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. His doctor found the cancer in its early stages in late October, and an operation was scheduled. The singer is now in the hospital recovering from a successful surgery.
The artist reported that he had been having bloody urine in the latter half of this year, and his doctor initially told him that he had a stone that had to be removed. After the removal, bamboo continued to have bloody urine. He went for a second opinion with a specialist, who then discovered the cancer.
The singer joked that his decision to have the surgery was made with the saying "Slay Evil Immediately" ("Aku Soku Zan" a shinsengumi motto) in mind. He added that he never thought it would be a "rock" that saved him, since if it weren't for the stone, the cancer might have progressed undetected.
The singer adds that even while hospitalized, he is still doing what he can with work. He also brought a Nintendo Switch with him, but has otherwise been focusing on recovery.
Vocalist and leader bamboo formed the duo milktub with guitarist and composer Ichibanboshi☆Hikaru in 1991. The singer also produced such game titles as Green Green and Overdrive's Edelweise, Kira☆Kira, Deardrops, and Dengeki Striker, and milktub wrote the theme songs for the Green Green television anime in 2003. The duo performed themes for Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts and The Eccentric Family. The title track for the group's latest single, "Naru ga Mama Sawagu ga Mama," is the opening song for The Eccentric Family 2 anime.
