Kagerou Daze Novel Series Ends in 8th Volume

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
8th volume slated for December 29

The official Twitter account for JIN's Kagerou Daze light novel series revealed last Friday that the novel series' upcoming eighth novel will be the final volume. The volume is slated for December 29.

JIN's Kagerou Project began as a Vocaloid song series that JIN wrote and composed in 2011. The first album, Mekakucity Daze, shipped in 2012. The second album, Mekakucity Records, shipped in 2013. A third album, titled Mekakucity Reload, was announced in August.

JIN launched the Kagerou Daze light novel series in May 2012, with illustrations by Sidu. Kadokawa published the novel series' seventh volume in August 2016. Mahiro Satou launched a manga adaptation of the novels in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Gene magazine in June 2012, and Kadokawa published the manga's 10th compiled book volume on October 27. The series inspired a 12-episode television anime adaptation titled Mekaku City Actors in 2014.

Yen Press publishes both the light novel series and manga in North America. Crunchyroll streamed the Mekaku City Actors anime as it aired in Japan.

The franchise will get a new anime project.

The franchise inspired the Kagerou Daze -in a day's- MX4D film, which opened in Japan in November 2016. Sidu, the illustrator of the novels and music videos, made her directorial debut with the film.
