Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, more to be added in coming weeks

Niantic announced on Wednesday that it will begin adding more Pokémon from the Hoenn region (creatures that first appeared in the generation three games Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire) later this week and in coming weeks. The developer cited Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip, while the video preview shows Groudon, Salamance, Shiftry, Aggron, and Ludicolo.

Niantic also announced that it will begin adding weather patterns to the game's map. Depending on the real-world weather, players may be more likely to find certain Pokémon, and some attacks will work better in certain conditions. For example, Mudkip will be easier to find on rainy days and Charizard's Fire Spin will work better on sunny days. The developer showed images of the game on sunny, rainy, snowy, foggy, partly cloudy, and windy days.

The only Hoenn region Pokémon that have appeared in the game thus far were the ghost Pokémon from this year's Halloween event.

Niantic announced on November 21 that the invitation-only EX Raid Battle system has moved out of testing, and the developers outlined the finalized details of the feature. In the system, players receive invitations with advance notice to participate in EX Raid Battles. Mewtwo is currently the only Pokémon available in the system.

The Pokémon GO app launched in select countries including the United States in July 2016, and has since launched in more than 50 countries.
