Final Fantasy Explorers-Force Smartphone Game Delayed to Spring 2018

Square Enix's iOS, Android game originally slated for 2017

The official website for the Final Fantasy Explorers-Force iOS and Android game revealed in a closed beta test feedback report on Wednesday that the game has been delayed to spring 2018. Square Enix originally planned to release the game in 2017.

The closed beta test for the game was held from October 11-15. Based on the results of the beta test, the game's developers decided to delay the game to improve quality and produce a game that will satisfy everyone.

Square Enix began streaming a teaser trailer for the game in September.

Like the first Final Fantasy Explorers game, Final Fantasy Explorers-Force will be a multiplayer RPG, but up to five players can collaborate instead of just four. Players will become soldiers of FORCE, an army of the International Peace Alliance. Players will be able to choose from jobs including Knight, Archer, Dragoon, White Mage, Monk, Black Mage, Thief, and Time Mage. Each job will have its own weapons with different abilities.

The game will again allow the players to occasionally transform into heroes from past Final Fantasy games. Characters such as Final Fantasy VII's Cloud, Final Fantasy VIII's Squall, Final Fantasy X's Tidus, Final Fantasy XII's Vaan, and Final Fantasy XIII's Lightning will appear. The game will also feature eidolons such as Ramuh, Bahamut, and Titan.

Square Enix released Final Fantasy Explorers for Nintendo 3DS in Japan in December 2014, and in North America and Europe in January 2016.
