Weekly Shōnen Magazine series adapts 1st Monogatari Series novel

The official Twitter account of writer NisiOisin revealed on Wednesday that his Bakemonogatari novel will get a manga adaptation that will launch in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine on March 14. The series will start in this year's 15th issue of the magazine.

NisiOisin's Monogatari Series novels center on Koyomi Araragi, a loner and failing student. One day, his classmate Hitagi Senjōgahara falls into his arms accidentally, and he discovers that Hitagi literally weighs nothing. According to her, she has had this problem since the first year of high school. After Koyomi helps out with her supernatural problem, Koyomi then meets other girls who are all troubled by some manner of supernatural "oddity."

The novel series began with the two-volume Bakemonogatari story in 2006, and it served as the basis for the first anime adaptation of the novels in 2009. The novel series' "final season" ended with Zoku Owarimonogatari in September 2014, but it featured a teaser for "Monogatari Series, Next Season Tsugimonogatari." Four "Off Season" novels — Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, and Musubimonogatarishipped in October 2015, January 2016, July 2016, and on January 2017, respectively. The novel series' new "Monster Season" launched with the Shinobumonogatari novel in July.

Vertical published the earlier Kizumonogatari prequel novel (technically the second installment in the series by Japanese release date, and the third released novel volume after the first two Bakemonogatari novel volumes) in December 2015, and began publishing the original Monogatari Series novels beginning in December 2016 with the Bakemonogatari novel volumes.

Aniplex of America is releasing the anime adaptations of the Monogatari Series in North America. The Owarimonogatari Second Season anime special, the most recent anime in the franchise, tackles the third Owarimonogatari novel volume. It premiered in a two-day television special last August. The Zoku Owarimonogatari novel will get an anime adaptation this year.
