Tanuki to Kitsune Anime Shorts Premiere on Friday

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
18-episode series to stream on YouTube, DVD will compile 20 episodes in May

The official website for Atamoto's Tanuki to Kitsune (Raccoon Dog and Fox) manga revealed on February 2 that the web anime shorts adaptation will premiere on Friday at 8:00 a.m. JST (Thursday at 6:00 p.m. EST). The show will stream on the official YouTube account for the franchise. The YouTube channel will debut the first four episodes once a day from Friday through Monday, and then new episodes will debut on Mondays. Episodes 5-18 will each only be available for a week.

Tomohiro Tsukimisato (chief director for Yurumates3Dei Plus) is directing the anime shorts. Each episode will be 90 seconds long, and the series will have 20 episodes, although only 18 episodes will stream online. All 20 episodes will be available on a DVD that will bundle with the manga's fourth compiled book volume on May 15.

The manga's story centers on the daily lives of a raccoon dog who is not quite with it and a mischievous fox who likes to tease the raccoon dog. The two are close friends who live together on a mountain. Their other friends include a wolf, a bear, a rabbit, and birds.

Atamoto began serializing the manga on Twitter, and Frontier Works released the third compiled book volume in print on November 15. The series has already inspired a wide variety of merchandise, as well as stamps on the LINE messaging and social media app.
