Philippines' Jeepney TV Launches 'Hero Zone' Anime Block on March 11

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Philippine cable channel Jeepney TV announced on Friday via a commercial that it will launch a "Hero Zone" programming block that will air anime, beginning on March 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The programming block will air every Sunday in that time slot. The announcement uses the new HERO logo, and evokes the now-defunct anime channel. Like HERO TV, Jeepney TV also airs under the ABS-CBN media conglomerate.

In addition, the Jeepney TV also unveiled a video for the new block during the JPOP Anime Singing Contest Grand Finals event on Saturday, which teased such titles as Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, your name., Love Live! Sunshine!!, and Initial D.

HERO TV recently shut down, airing its last day on January 31, and signing off at 12:00 a.m. on February 1. HERO TV's sister channel TAG also shut down. The channel's social media channels then pivoted as a "digital platform" for news and articles related to pop culture, anime, and gaming.

Media conglomerate ABS-CBN launched HERO TV in 2005. The channel aired Filipino-dubbed anime. The channel initially re-aired classic anime with Filipino dubs that ABS-CBN had already licensed, such as Voltes V, Naruto, Shaman King, and others. HERO TV then moved to licensing anime on its own, and in the past years, has aired Filipino dubs of anime that aired only three or four seasons previous.
