Manga centers on man who takes family to meet parents, reunites with estranged father

Manga creator Inio Asano posted a new manga titled Service Area in NHK's Domo, Manga Desu. website on Wednesday.

The manga centers on Shūhei Wakatsuki, a man who lives and works in Tokyo. On New Year's Eve, he decides to take his girlfriend and her son to his old home to see his parents. While driving, memories of his father, with whom he had never gotten along, begin to surface. When they arrive at his parents' house, he and his father silently sit down to watch a New Year's TV show together and begin to talk.

Viz Media has published Asano's previous series Solanin, What a wonderful world!, and Goodnight Punpun. Fantagraphics Books published Asano's horror manga Nijigahara Holograph in 2014, and Vertical Comics published Asano's A Girl on the Shore manga in 2016.

Viz Media licensed his Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction manga, and will ship the first volume on April 17. The manga is currently on hiatus in Japan, and will return this summer.
