gdgd Fairies' Kōtarō Ishidate Launches Variety Show Starring CG Characters
posted on by Karen Ressler
Animation studio Bouncy announced on Tuesday that Kōtarō Ishidate (gdgd Fairies, Tesagure! Bukatsu-mono, Naria Girls) will direct a one-hour variety show starring CG characters. The show, titled Virtual Wide, will have one trial episode that will stream on Yahoo! Japan on March 29. The staff noted that if the trial episode is successful then there is a chance it will become a regular show.
The show will use the same motion capture 3DCG animation used in Minarai Diva and Naria Girls. The show is "set" in the celestial world, where god and angels discuss the goings on of Earth. "The voice of god" can be heard over the two "angels" Mika Kōsaki and Kabu Mizuki.
The website mentioned that the concept was inspired by the popularity of virtual YouTubers. User Local's Virtual YouTuber Ranking website reported that the number of virtual YouTubers increased from 500 to 1,000 between February 27 and March 18.
