posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Film based on romantic comedy manga opens in Japan on June 23

The official website for the live-action film and television series adaptation of Ema Toyama's Missions of Love (Watashi ni xx Shinasai!) romantic comedy manga began streaming the film's trailer on Friday. The video previews Polkadot Stingray's theme song "Ichidaiji (xx ver.)."

The four-episode series premiered on MBS on March 25 and TBS on March 27, while the film will open in Japan on June 23. Tōru Yamamoto is directing the film and series.

The film stars:

Tina Tamashiro (left) as Yukina, and Yūta Koseki (right) as Shigure Kitami

Orakio (left) as Yukina's editor Shimonita, and Riho Takada (right) as Hisame's editor Kawabuchi

Other cast members, pictured left to right in the image below, include:

  • Anna Yamada as Mami Mizuno, Shigure's childhood friend who harbors feelings for him
  • Kanta Santō as Akira Shimotsuki, Yukina's childhood friend and Shigure's rival
  • Daichi Kaneko as Hisame Kitami, Shigure's step brother whose cellphone novel competes with Yukina's for popularity

Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in North America and it describes the story:

Cell phone novelist Yukina Himuro has decided that in order to satisfy her fans' demand for love stories, she must experience romance firsthand. But with her icy reputation, how can she find someone willing to play the part of boyfriend? By blackmailing the most popular boy in school, of course!

Toyama launched the award-winning manga in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine in 2009 and ended it in June 2015. Kodansha published 19 compiled book volumes for the manga. The manga has 2.12 million copies in print. Toyama launched a new manga titled Watashi ni xx Shinasai! Couple-hen (Missions of Love - Couple Arc) on March 2.
