Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata: Koi-suru Metronome Manga Ends on April 25

Spinoff manga about Utaha Kasumigaoka launched in 2013

This year's fourth volume of Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine revealed on March 24 that Musyasabu's Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata: Koi-suru Metronome manga will end in the magazine's next issue on April 25.

The manga is an original story set in the world of Fumiaki Maruto's Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata light novel series that centers on Utaha Kasumigaoka, the unapproachable honor student who is in fact a light novel author with the pseudonym Utako Kasumi. The manga's title is the title of Utaha's first novel.

Musyasabu launched the manga in Monthly Big Gangan in 2013. Square Enix shipped the manga's ninth compiled book volume last December.

Maruto's original light novel series with illustrations by Kurehito Misaki revolves around Tomoya Aki, an otaku who is working part-time to earn enough money to buy anime on Blu-ray Disc. He meets a beautiful girl on his way home during spring vacation. He eventually models the heroine of his own dōjin game after her. However, he finds out a month later that the girl is in fact his classmate, and he doesn't know her name. He learns that the girl — named Megumi — actually is hardly noticed by others. Tomoya also has no artistic ability or writing skills, so he asks ace of the art club Eriri Spencer Sawamura to provide the art, as well as the honor student Utaha Kasumigaoka to write the scenario. Can they produce a decent game for Comic Market?

The light novel series ended with its 13th volume last October.

The novels inspired an anime adaptation that premiered in January 2015 in Japan on Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block, and a second series premiered on the same block last April. Aniplex of America licensed the first series under the title Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend, and streamed it on Aniplex Channel, Crunchyroll, and Hulu as it aired.

Aniplex of America streamed the second series under the title Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Flat on Amazon's Anime Strike channel. An upcoming anime film is currently in production. The film will not be a compilation film of the previous anime, but will be a new work.

Yen Press is publishing Takeshi Moriki's manga adaptation. Moriki ended the series last August and began the Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata Girls Side in September 2016. Moriki ended that manga last June, and the second and final volume shipped last July.

Another manga spinoff, Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata ~egoistic-lily~, ended in 2014.

A PlayStation Vita game based off of the anime shipped in Japan in April 2015.
