Game also gets special themed PS4 console

Sega announced at the "Sega Fes" event in Tokyo on Saturday that it will release the PlayStation 4 version of its Border Break mecha action arcade game in Japan on August 2. Pre-orders begin on April 16.

The game is also getting a special themed PS4 console.

The game will be a free-to-play game with in-game purchases, but it will also have a physical release and special download edition bonuses. Open beta testing began in February.

SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Tielle, part of the vocal project by composer Hiroyuki Sawano, is performing the theme song "Amazing Trees."

The multiplayer game allows up to 10 players to team up and fight against an opposing 10-player team in various maps. Players are able to customize their mechs (called Blast Runners), in both appearance and weaponry. The game supports both the DualShock 4 controller and a mouse for controls.

The game will also have a story mode. That cast stars Reina Ueda as Hati, Rie Takahashi as Mikoto, and Shunsuke Takeuchi as Managar.

Sega's AM2 division launched Border Break in 2009 as a fast-paced multi-player 3D shooter game with mecha. The game was an early showcase for Sega's RingEdge arcade hardware architecture.
