The official Japanese PlayStation website revealed on Wednesday that Hit-Point's Neko Atsume VR game will launch for PlayStation 4 with PlayStation VR support via the PlayStation Store in Japan on May 31.
The website also revealed screenshots for the game. The game will cost 1,944 yen (about US$18).
In the game, players can place food and toys in their yard to attract various cats. Certain cats are attracted to certain items, and players can take photos of each cat to add to their collection. Cats also occasionally give "treasures." The PlayStation VR feature allows players to use toys to play with cats.
Hit-Point's original Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector smartphone cat-collecting game has been downloaded more than 19 million times worldwide since it debuted in October 2014.
The Neko Atsume no Ie (Neko Atsume's Home) live-action film based on Hit-Point's game opened in Japan in April 2017. Japan Society's Japan Cuts: Festival of New Japanese Film event in New York City screened the film last July.
