"Classic soccer" manga centers on team on the verge of collapse

This year's 10th issue of Akita Shoten's Young Champion magazine revealed on Tuesday that author Masaya Tsunamoto (Giant Killing) and illustrator Isao Tanishima (=Ippatsu) will launch a manga series titled Mr. CB in the magazine's 11th issue on May 8. The manga's first chapter will have 51 pages with an opening color page.

The "classic soccer" manga is for "all those who love soccer." The series centers on the pride of a center back, where driven men aim to revive a team that is on the verge of collapsing due to financial difficulty.

Kodansha's Weekly Morning first published Tsunamoto and Tsujitomo's Giant Killing manga in 2007, and Kodansha shipped the 47th volume (pictured at right) in Japan on Monday. The series inspired a 2010 television anime, which Crunchyroll streamed as it aired in Japan. Crunchyroll removed the anime from its site in November 2012.

Kodansha Comics began releasing the manga digitally in English in March 2017, and it released the 12th volume on April 17.
