Prototype also plans European release

Game company Prototype announced on Wednesday that it will release the Clannad visual novel for PlayStation 4 via the U.S. PlayStation Store in late June. The company also noted that it is preparing distribution for other regions, including Europe.

The U.S. release will be digital-only, but the PlayStation 4 physical version that ships in Japan on June 14 will have an English text option.

Sekai Project released the Clannad visual novel on the PC via Steam in November 2015 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Sekai Project also released the Clannad: Side Stories visual novel on the PC via Steam in 2016.

The original visual novel has already been ported to PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, and phones in Japan.

The game inspired an anime movie and two television anime series. The series follows delinquent high school student Tomoya Okazaki, who one day meets a strange girl named Nagisa Furukawa who is a year older, but is repeating her last year of high school due to illness. Tomoya becomes involved with Nagisa and her hopes of restarting the school drama club.
