Glitter Force Brand's Rights Move to Hasbro

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Hasbro acquired Glitter Force, Power Rangers, other brands from Saban Brands

The official website for Glitter Force and Glitter Force Doki Doki, the localized brand names for Toei Animation's Smile Precure! and Dokidoki! Precure anime, confirmed in its updated privacy policy on June 14 that Hasbro now owns the rights to the names and brand.

Saban Brands released the first season of Glitter Force, covering the first half of Smile Precure!, in December 2015. The second season, covering the second half of Smile Precure!, premiered in August 2016. The trademark for "Glitter Force" moved from Saban Brands to Toei Animation in May 2017. Glitter Force Doki Doki premiered on Netflix last August, and the second season premiered last November. Despite the trademark moving to Toei Animation, Saban Brands was still credited with production on Glitter Force Doki Doki.

Saban Brands will shut down on July 2. Saban Capital Group, the parent company of Saban Brands, will remain in operation. Hasbro announced on May 1 that it will acquire Power Rangers and several other brands from Saban Properties. The agreement, which is expected to close in the second quarter of 2018, includes all of Saban's related intellectual property, category rights, and content libraries.

Hasbro was already named as the master toy licensee for the Power Rangers franchise, and will take over for the previous license holder Bandai America on April 1, 2019. The US$22.25 million Hasbro already paid in this deal will be credited against the purchase price for the brands.
